PBS Wisconsin Education Resource: Re/sound: Songs of Wisconsin

Re/sound: Songs of Wisconsin is a collection of educational media resources for general music programs serving grades 4-8, and is a collaboration with Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA).

In a state-wide survey and listening sessions with music educators, PBS Wisconsin Education learned about the need for current, authentic, culturally diverse resources, as well as support in teaching with and about music from different cultures. These educator-stated needs shaped the direction and goals of the collection.

This multimedia collection includes video interviews with Wisconsin musicians, performances, audio files, and educator engagement guides designed to help activate the media with learners. In addition, Wisconsin School Music Association and PBS Wisconsin are offering virtual professional learning workshops with Re/Sound performers and use of educator engagement guides. The interactions for Winter 2020-2021 include:

• Re/Sound Performer Panel Discussion – December 3, 2020: 7:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Educators, parents, and students interact with Re/Sound performers sharing the joys of music and encouraging one another through the current challenges we face. Register here for this FREE workshop.
• Hmong Curriculum and Lesson Planning – February 20, 2021: 9:00-11:00 a.m.
  • Curriculum writers, Katherine Miller and Lucy Wrenn, share ideas and resources provided in the Re/Sound educator engagement guides for sharing Hmong music in your classroom. Register here for this Free workshop.
• LatinX Curriculum and Lesson Planning – March 6, 2021: 9:00-11:00 a.m.
